Resource Overview
This resource package explores the challenges that youth face related to their friends, their families and their feelings during adolescence, and the added pressure that tobacco, alcohol and other drugs may add. Six themes are introduced:
- The Group Scene
- Family Pressure Points
- Loneliness
- Anger
- Friendship
- Self-Confidence
Each module includes teacher planning notes, accommodations, assessment and evaluation tools and teaching/learning strategies.

Expectations
The resource was designed as a supplemental package for Social Sciences and the Humanities Courses within the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum in consultation with the Toronto District School Board.
The document is available in two formats
- CD-Rom with cross-referenced links between the table of contents, teaching strategies and appendices
- Hardcopy manual - 172 single sided pages in a 3-ring binder for easy access and photocopying

Modules and Activities
Each of the six modules has three activity segments:
- Introduction to the theme
- Examination of the theme in youth culture
- Examination of the theme in relation to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs
The eighteen activity segments include more than 50 black and white masters.
The modules can be followed in a step-by-step fashion, or extracted by theme or to meet a specific curriculum expectation.

An extensive and up-dated list of related resources are included.
This resource is useful in a variety of settings, wherever adolescents have the opportunity to examine life challenges and develop interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict mediation skills.
